May Magic: Performances & Puppet Making
We will be celebrating the coming of Summer with a magical mini-outdoor day festival, Picnic at the Puppet Theatre, on 31 May. This is a wonderful opportunity for all the family to come and enjoy one of the most unique family spaces in the City and to experience different elements of puppetry, from performances to puppet making. We are delighted to be welcoming back Sokobauno (Shane Connolly) for the event, who performed with NPT in our Christmas 2011 production, Red Riding Hood. Shane will be bringing his unique puppetry peformance space – The Little Fawn Caravan. Come and spend a morning, an afternoon or the whole day with us. We have super puppetry performances throughout the day, including the wonderful Little Fawn Caravan and the forever fun Garlic Theatre. There will also be a drop-in glove puppet workshop where you can make your own character, guided by our expert workshop leaders and with a huge selection of magic materials and delightful decor to make your puppet completely unique. Bring a rug, grab a hot dog, tea and cake, soft drinks and partake in general Puppet Theatre merriment. We end the day with the return of the Pied Piper in the main auditorium. You can buy a Standard Ticket for 11am to 1pm, or 2 to 4pm and in these two hour slots you can enjoy the rolling programme of events at your own leisure. A Super Ticket will also give you entry to Pied Piper at 4pm. Join us for a blissful early Summer’s day. Other May Half-term treats include our immersive work for Early Years audiences Three Colours, Lyngo’s treatment of Jack and the Beanstalk and Sea Legs Puppet Theatre’s The Musicians of Bremen; think Toy Story meets the Brothers Grimm. Puppetry Gets Spooky… A dark and twisted show with a wicked sense of humour
Grimlake’s Emporium of Novelties: a dilapidated shop on the outskirts of Nowhere, where corny magic tricks and strange puppets collect dust and cobwebs. No one has entered the shop for years, but that’s just fine by proprietor Albert Grimlake.
