May Magic: Performances & Puppet Making

We will be celebrating the coming of Summer with a magical mini-outdoor day festival, Picnic at the Puppet Theatre, on 31 May. This is a wonderful opportunity for all the family to come and enjoy one of the most unique family spaces in the City and to experience different elements of puppetry, from performances to puppet making. picnic-at-the-puppet-theatre-2 We are delighted to be welcoming back Sokobauno (Shane Connolly) for the event, who performed with NPT in our Christmas 2011 production, Red Riding Hood. Shane will be bringing his unique puppetry peformance space – The Little Fawn Caravan. picnic-at-the-puppet-theatre-3 Come and spend a morning, an afternoon or the whole day with us. We have super puppetry performances throughout the day, including the wonderful Little Fawn Caravan and the forever fun Garlic Theatre. There will also be a drop-in glove puppet workshop where you can make your own character, guided by our expert workshop leaders and with a huge selection of magic materials and delightful decor to make your puppet completely unique. Bring a rug, grab a hot dog, tea and cake, soft drinks and partake in general Puppet Theatre merriment. We end the day with the return of the Pied Piper in the main auditorium. pied-piper-puppet-play You can buy a Standard Ticket for 11am to 1pm, or 2 to 4pm and in these two hour slots you can enjoy the rolling programme of events at your own leisure. A Super Ticket will also give you entry to Pied Piper at 4pm. Join us for a blissful early Summer’s day. Puppetry Gets Spooky… A dark and twisted show with a wicked sense of humour

Suitable for ages 12+

Grimlake’s Emporium of Novelties: a dilapidated shop on the outskirts of Nowhere, where corny magic tricks and strange puppets collect dust and cobwebs. No one has entered the shop for years, but that’s just fine by proprietor Albert Grimlake. The-Shop-of-Little-Horrors-2

Albert is a man obsessed with puppets, particularly ventriloquist dummies – each face lovingly crafted by his own hand, and bearing an uncanny resemblance to customers, friends and family long gone.
But Grimlake is growing old and knows he won’t last forever. He has no son, no successor. Time is running out to find someone to keep the Emporium open, someone to breathe life into his creations, someone who shares his peculiar passion for puppets… The-Shop-of-Little-Horrors-3 Enter Eric. He’s young, he’s eager, and he’s seen all the Muppet movies, twice. He’s the perfect applicant: keener than mustard and easily moulded. But Eric discovers there’s so much to learn. How do you scream without moving your lips? The-Shop-of-Little-Horrors-4 The Shop of Little Horrors is a dark and twisted show with a wicked sense of humour, featuring a macabre collection of characters. Using extraordinary puppets, masks and props, Pickled Image has created a show to rival their international successes, Houdini’s Suitcase, Hunger and Late Night Wolf Tales. P.S. This show contains no carnivorous plants    Norwich-Puppet-Theatre-Summer-2014-1
