THE DRILL HOUSE TEA DANCE

SATURDAY 23 JUNE, 2-5pm

THE DRILL HOUSE, YORK ROAD, Great Yarmouth

SeaChange Arts’ Drill House Tea Dance returns this Saturday at the Great Yarmouth venue. Hosted by the acclaimed Ragroof Players, visitors will be treated to a trip down memory lane with vintage music, delightful dance moves and delicious tea and cake.

Tea Dance

The event has quickly become a popular one at the York Road venue. The monthly visit of the Ragroof DJs, playing authentic music from the 1920s to 1950s, has brought people from across the county to Yarmouth to dance the light fantastic.

“There’s a massive appetite for this kind of event,” says SeaChange’s Veronica Stephens. “The gentile atmosphere, vintage outfits, glorious dance displays, all hark back to a different era – it’s lovely.”

The Ragroof Players are an acclaimed theatre and dance company whose accessible tea dance events are seen the length and breadth of the country.

Their trademark instant dance classes provide a chance for everyone to roll back the years and discover some glorious dance steps from yesteryear as they lead classic dances like the Charleston, Waltz, Mambo plus some scintillating Jive and Swing.

The event is open to all and no partner needed.  Ragroof’s unique approach to partner dancing encourages everyone to learn the steps of both lead and follow, rather than be dictated to by gender.

Tickets for The Drill House Tea Dance are £5 and can be booked with SeaChange Arts at www.seachangearts.org.uk or call 01493 745458.

About SeaChange Arts:

Great Yarmouth based but collaborating internationally, SeaChange are an independent arts development charity dedicated to delivering outstanding Circus and Street Arts events.  Working as the arts development and promotion agency for Great Yarmouth Borough Council, we also run creative projects of many kinds.

Our focus on Circus and Street Arts grows naturally from this seaside town’s rich performance heritage and provides us with an accessible medium for all kinds of projects, interventions and activities.

Throughout the year, we work with communities, schools, producers, artists, festivals, and local and international partners on a number of projects, sometimes intimate, sometimes immense – but always inspirational!

Much of this work is showcased each year at the Out There Festival.  Produced by SeaChange, Out There is now the region’s largest free festival of street arts and circus and regularly attracts audiences in excess of 60,000 people.

Great art and culture inspires us, brings us together and teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. In short, it makes life better. Between 2015 and 2018, we plan to invest £1.1 billion of public money from government and an estimated £700 million from the National Lottery to help create these experiences for as many people as possible across the country. www.artscouncil.org.uk
