After its sell-out success at London’s Pleasance, Ella Dorman- Gajic’s 5-star play, Trade, will finish its 2023 tour at Norwich Arts Centre. Trade explores the ever-present yet rarely-seen issue of sex trafficking, spanning Bosnia to London. Currently, there are an estimated 50 million people enslavedacross the globe. With the government’s new immigration policy, victims of modern slavery arriving irregularly to the UK would not get support, placing them at risk of further exploitation. (Unseen)

Trade explores this timely issue in a “sensitive… engaging” way (The Stage), told through the eyes of a morally complex female protagonist. Directed by Norwich-born theatre director Maddy Corner and written by UEA Scriptwriting Graduate Ella Dorman- Gajic, Trade was first conceived in Norwich and has since been awarded an OffComm by the revered OFFIE Awards, along with many 4 and 5-star reviews.

The company will collect donations throughout the tour for the anti-trafficking charity Unseen. The play is published by Salamander Street with 10% of sales going to Unseen. This tour is proudly supported by Arts Council England.

Artistically integrated captions make Trade accessible to both d/Deaf audiences and native Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian speakers.

The play stars recent RADA Graduate Katarina Novkovic, alongside Eleanor Roberts and Ojan Genc (Apple’s Slow Horses).

Ella Dorman-Gajic is a writer and performer of Serbian and Austrian heritage. Her work has been described as “impassioned” by The Guardian. Her plays have been staged around the UK and nominated for several playwriting awards, including the prestigious Theatre503 Award and Papatango Playwriting Prize.

Written with passion and filled with humour and tenderness” (Play’s The Thing), Trade fuses projection, design and poetic storytelling in a “gripping and heartwrenching” production (Everything Theatre).
