SPEED PAINTING AND COMIC BOOK CREATION AT THE DRILL HOUSE

THE MONTHLY DO

FRIDAY 27 APRIL, 4-11pm

THE DRILL HOUSE, YORK ROAD, Great Yarmouth

The Monthly Do returns to SeaChange Arts’ Drill House this week (Friday 27 April).  The regular monthly event mixes food, performance and creative activities for young and old.

The first part of the evening focuses on family activities and this month sees local illustrator Stuart Patterson lead a workshop to create comic book stories around the history of The Drill House as part of SeaChange’s Heritage Lottery funded Drill House 150 project.

Enjoy the unseasonably warm spring weather something from the BBQ before one of the country’s leading street performers, Jon Hicks performs his long-running ‘Icons’ speed painting show – turning art on its head, quite literally!

Later in the evening, there’ll be a comedy quiz for grown-ups and some vintage vinyl courtesy of DJ Miss Skavoovie.

The Monthly Do is Free.  Further information can be found at  www.seachangearts.org.uk

THE ACCLAIMED RAGROOF PLAYERS RETURN FOR APRIL DRILL HOUSE TEA DANCE

THE DRILL HOUSE TEA DANCE

SATURDAY 28 APRIL, 2-5pm

THE DRILL HOUSE, YORK ROAD, Great Yarmouth

SeaChange Arts host their second monthly Drill House Tea Dance with The Ragroof Players this Saturday (28 April) at the Great Yarmouth venue.

Dancers will be treated to the sounds and dance moves of yesteryear as well as delicious tea and cakes.

Featuring Ragroof’s DJs and authentic music from the 1920s to 1950s, the March event was a sell-out as vintage costumes, glorious dance displays, and Ragroof’s trademark instant dance classes provide a chance for everyone to roll back the years and trip the light fantastic.

“The event forms part of our Heritage Lottery funded Drill House 150 project,” says SeaChange’s Senior Producer, Veronica Stephens. “We’re really glad it’s taken off. There’s obviously a lot of appetite for people, young and old, to enjoy great vintage music and dance.”

“Everyone is welcome, no partners needed.  Ragroof’s unique approach to partner dancing encourages everyone to learn the steps of both lead and follow, rather than be dictated to by gender.”

The nationally acclaimed Ragroof have built a reputation on delivering theatre and dance events that bring people from all walks of life together.  They will lead classic dances like the Charleston, Waltz, Mambo plus some scintillating Jive and Swing. They will also be hosting a masterclass event for artists to learn about their work on Friday 11 May.

The Drill House 150 project sees a number of events and projects celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Grade II listed building.  SeaChange are also keen to hear from people with memories of the building as they build an archive of its life over the last century and half.

Tickets for The Drill House Tea Dance are £5 and can be booked with SeaChange Arts at www.seachangearts.org.uk  or call 01493 745458.

About SeaChange Arts

Great Yarmouth based but collaborating internationally, SeaChange are an independent arts development charity dedicated to delivering outstanding Circus and Street Arts events.  Working as the arts development and promotion agency for Great Yarmouth Borough Council, we also run creative projects of many kinds.

Our focus on Circus and Street Arts grows naturally from this seaside town’s rich performance heritage and provides us with an accessible medium for all kinds of projects, interventions and activities.

Throughout the year, we work with communities, schools, producers, artists, festivals, and local and international partners on a number of projects, sometimes intimate, sometimes immense – but always inspirational!

Much of this work is showcased each year at the Out There Festival.  Produced by SeaChange, Out There is now the region’s largest free festival of street arts and circus and regularly attracts audiences in excess of 60,000 people.
