U14 BOYS AND MIXED SQUADS IN SUNDAY ACTION

While the league programme has been consigned to history there is still plenty to play for before the curtain comes down on the 2015/16 season.

On Sunday the U14 Boys, after coming second in Midlands League 3 behind Norwich City, will be playing for a place in the national finals. At City of Peterborough HC (PE3 9UZ) in Pool A of the Midlands Regional Finals they play Cambridge City (11.40), City of Peterborough (1.30) and Leicester (2.40) with the pool winners going through to the national finals at Lee Valley Hockey Centre over the weekend of 14/15 May.

Pool B is made up of Norwich City (hosts), Bishop’s Stortford, Lindum (Lincoln) and Rugby & East Warwickshire.

Magpies’ squad: Charlie Hope (GK), Seth Read, Oli Hall, Max Warde-Aldam, Louis Calvert, James Hardy, Michael Ahrens, Hayden Macaulay, Ben Emms, James Webster, Jude Pottruff, Arthur Johnson, Tom Caston, Sam King, James Smith (coach), Chris Hall (manager), Mark Emms (assistant manager).

Also on Sunday the Mixed team will be entertaining Wisbech (1.00) in the fourth round of the national trophy. The two teams met at this stage of the competition last season with Magpies winning 9-0 in Wisbech on their way to clinching the trophy for the second time. Their goals were scored by Maria Andrews 3, Ben Wright 2, Katrina Sitch, Lucy Whiting, Lauren Barber and Lizzie Clymer but at half time they were only one goal ahead due to an outstanding performance by the Wisbech goalkeeper.

In earlier rounds this season Magpies have beaten Ipswich (H) 4-1, Saffron Walden (A) 4-1 and Norwich City (H) 5-0.

Best wishes to both our teams for Sunday.

CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to Lucy and Stuart Field on the birth of their second child Ziggy Stanley on Wednesday 30 March. I am told that Lucy and Ziggy are doing well and that Tilly is a very proud sister. I also hope that Stuart is doing well and that Lucy will soon be in training for next season having not played recently for some reason!

Correction advised to me by Girls’ Development manager Sandra Elliner.
I recently recorded Emma Cogdell scoring against Norwich Dragons when I should have said the goal was scored by her sister Anna. Sorry girls – I hope I’m forgiven!

With kind regards
