Urgent notice of closures this Sunday 8th May 2011

Sportspark, based at the University of East Anglia in Norwich will temporarily be closing some of its facilities on Sunday 8 May whilst construction work takes place. Sportspark is upgrading its air conditioning units in the Fitness Centre. As a result the Fitness Centre, Martial Arts Room, Dance Studio and the dry side changing rooms will be closed until 10am.

Access to the Sportspark car park will also only be possible via the Earlham Road entrance on Sunday morning, as University Drive outside Sportspark will be closed until approximately 10:30am to allow a crane to lift the new air conditioning units on to the roof.

Repairs are required to one of the three existing air conditioning units. However, as they are 10 years old and use a coolant process that changes to environmental legislation will make obsolete in two years, Sportspark has decided to replace all three units with upgraded compliant models.

The process of removing the existing units from the roof and replacing them will commence at 5am on Sunday and take approximately five hours. For safety reasons, Sportspark is required to close access to the rooms below the lifting area during this process.

Sportspark Director, Keith Nicholls said: “We apologise for the late notice and inconvenience this will cause. The extended bank holiday period has prevented us from confirming that the new units, the crane, the installers and University maintenance staff, will all be available at this time. Once the units are operational, this £30,000 investment will enable us to provide a more controlled environment for customers who work out.”

It will take a week to make all the connections and commission the new air conditioning units, during which time the Fitness Centre may be hotter than usual if the outside temperature is high.

Keith Nicholls added: “With this investment, we are continuing our policy of providing top quality, sustainable facilities at Sportspark. I would like to thank our customers for their patience whilst the improvements are being carried out.”
