Volunteers wanted for Age Concern ‘Pabulum Café’ in Diss, Norfolk

Volunteers are needed to help Age Concern Norfolk with a new community café it is launching at Diss for people with dementia and their carers.

The Pabulum Café will be based at The Denny Centre, in Thomas Manning Road, opening every 2nd Wednesday of the month from 10.30am-12.30pm, starting in May.

Prividing a welcoming and relaxed setting for reminiscence and carer support, the aim being to focus on the individual, not their memory impairment.

Volunteers can help create fun and enjoyment by using period items and music from bygone eras to stimulate memories, conversation and laughter. They may also want to help create a ‘Life Story Book’, working in pairs to help put together photographs, letters and other items that make up a person’s personal story.

The Pabulum Café will also be offering opportunities for carers to meet with professionals such as community mental health nurses, social workers, information, advice and advocacy staff.

The project is sponsored by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and training for volunteers will be provided during April.
