The Wayland Agricultural Show celebrated its 140th birthday in August with a record breaking attendance of over 15,000 visitors to the show, helping it raise even more money for the local charities and community projects it supports.

All profits from the annual event are given to local charities and projects in Norfolk with a total of £25,675 being raised this year. An additional £11,800 was donated to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices from the Wayland Annual Ball held in March 2013.

The money is being donated to 33 organisations including Wayland First Response, Watton RAF Cadets, West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled, Mid Norfolk Gun Dogs, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Rare Breeds Survival Trust East Anglia and YANA Farmers Crisis Line.

The two charities with the largest donation of £1,500 are the Swaffham Lions and the Wymondham Lions; two charities supporting the local community and those in need.

£1,000 was also donated by the Wayland Agricultural Society to Ashill Voluntary Controlled Primary School PTA to purchase sports kits for their netball and football teams.

Ian Whettingsteel, chairman of the Wayland Agricultural Show says: “All the profits from the Wayland Show are given to a variety of local charities and good causes within the Wayland area. The record attendance this year means that we can give more money than ever before.”

An application form for charities and clubs in the Breckland area to apply for money for the 2014 show is available on the Wayland Show website.

The Wayland Show is one of Britain’s longest running one-day agricultural shows of its kind and next year’s show will be held on 3rdAugust 2014.
