Show will bring magic of Victorian era to life

Saturday, February 2nd 2019

The winner of one of the most iconic British talent programmes will be showcasing his skills at Beccles Public Hall next month.

Illusionist Chris North, who won New Faces during its prime, will be returning to the town by popular demand on Saturday, February 2, with his Amazing Mysteries, the third in a trilogy of Victorian magic shows.

The unique entertainment, which follows the success of A Night of Mystery and A Cavalcade of Wonders, is designed to take theatregoers on a nostalgic journey back to a time where mystery and superstition created a sense of wonder.

With curious conjuring, spectacular sorcery and magic to marvel at, Chris will give a glimpse into the entertainment that fascinated Victorian audiences.

Chris said: “I’ve been lucky as my work has taken me all over the world and I worked in television for around six years. I’ve been in the industry for 50 years now and I decided I wanted to produce shows for theatres.

“It had to be different so I came up with themed magic shows, one of which was my Victorian show. I had a good knowledge of the era and I developed the show around it.

“The first Victorian show was aimed at adults, the second at a family audience and this one is recommended for 12 years plus. There will be a lot of visual magic and it explores the superstitions of the Victorian era in a light hearted and comical way.

“It looks at how they thought and behaved, and also at some of the inexplicable curiosities that helped to define the era and enthral audiences.”

Chris will also be joined by the Victorian Enchantress with her sophisticated sorcery and magic.

Lesley Cox, Event Co-ordinator at Beccles Public Hall, said: “Chris’ show is like nothing else we have seen before at the hall. Our audience will feel like they are stepping back in time to the golden era of entertainment where magic, mystery and superstition created huge wonder and amusement.”

The show begins at 7.30pm. For tickets, visit www.becclespublichall.com or call the box office on 01502 770060.
