World Down syndrome day

World Down syndrome day heralds start of arts course for adults with learning disabilities.

Booking is now open for a new arts course aimed at adults with learning disabilities, including Down syndrome.

The 10-week course is run by arts charity, Suffolk Artlink and starts next month. It offers students in Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft and Ipswich the chance to enjoy exploring a variety of art forms whilst developing creative and life skills.

During the course, students will be working one day per week alongside professional artists to create decorative artwork including colourful banners and 3D installations.

The students’ work will be on display at festivals around Suffolk this summer, including First Light Festival in Lowestoft and Maui Waui Festival in Theberton.

Charlie Meyer, Suffolk Artlink Project Officer, said: “We create a warm, encouraging atmosphere where people can flourish through being creative. Our students have such creativity and imagination, it’s really inspiring to work alongside them.

“We can’t wait to see what they produce and are really looking forward to sharing their joyful artworks with festival goers this summer.”
