Lenten music

Wymondham Abbey’s choir will be performing a special concert of Lenten music on Saturday, April 8 at 5pm. The concert will take place in the magnificent surroundings of Wymondham Abbey and will be preceded by refreshments in the church from 4.15pm. No tickets are required – there will be a retiring collection.

The concert is in aid of the Friends of Wymondham Abbey, an independent charity, which raises money to help with many aspects of the life of the Abbey.

The programme will include Lenten classics such as Allegri’s famous Miserere and Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer which depicts Christ’s experience in the wilderness. His adorated arrival into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday is triumphantly reflected in Hosanna to the Son of David, set to music by the English renaissance composer Thomas Weelkes. There will also be an eight-part motet ‘Crucifixus’ by the 17th century Italian, Antonio Lotti.

Rob Goodrich, the Abbey’s Director of Music, will conduct the concert. Organ accompaniment will be provided by assistant organists Peter O’Connor and Mike Webb, who will both play organ solos.
