Wymondham Flower Festival

Wymondham Flower Festival 2016

Wymondham Abbey will be staging a spectacular flower festival, entitled ‘Rejoice’  from Friday, May 27 to Monday, May 30.

The festival will showcase the work of some of the top flower arrangers in the district and will feature 75 stunning displays spaced throughout the interior of the historic church and its new extensions.

The festival  will open from 10am until 5pm on each day, except Sunday, when the doors open at 12noon.  Entry on the door is £7.50 to include brochure (under 18s free).

“We’ve entitled the festival ‘Rejoice’ as a mark of our gratitude for the splendid new development project at the Abbey”, said festival designer Doris Waymark. “A previous festival, in 2008, was used as a launch for the campaign to get new facilities at the Abbey, so it seems fitting that we complete the cycle with another display of floral art.”

The new extensions, with their additional facilities, exhibits and interpretation displays were completed last November, and have already proved a great hit with visitors and parishioners alike.

“The new extensions have transformed the church,” said Rev’d Canon Christopher Davies, Vicar of Wymondham. “Worshippers and visitors have been fulsome in their praise of what has been achieved. There’s a tangible benefit for the whole community.”

There will also be a dance and supper on the evening of Saturday, May 28, with music from the Cool Blue Swing Band, fish and chip supper and a pay bar.  The event starts at 7 pm. Tickets are £15 and booking ahead is essential, contact Joyce Reynolds t. 01953 604904.

The regular Sunday Evensong (6:30pm on May 29) will be in the form of a Songs of Praise involving the Abbey’s choir.

Refreshments will be available in Abbey Hall during festival hours.
