Norwich Science Festival Volunteers

The Norwich Science Festival returns for its second year this October, with lots of fascinating talks, scintillating shows, and free hands-on science fun for everyone, at The Forum and other venues around Norwich.

The Festival team at The Forum is looking for enthusiastic, friendly people to join the #NorwichSciFest crew, to help members of the public make the most of the many exhibitions, events and activities on offer during the Festival.

Volunteers would be working either at The Forum or at other city centre locations where Festival events are being held.

Previous event volunteering experience is desirable, as is an interest or involvement in science, but not essential. Volunteers need to be sociable, and have an energetic personality, an enquiring mind and a willingness to help make the event a memorable and inspirational experience for everyone.

Various roles are available, including event stewarding, ticketing, information assistant, media and evaluation position, and learning host.

Festival events are being held both during the day and in the evenings, so there are plenty of opportunities to be involved, both for the public events in half term (21-29 October) and the learning programme for schools the week before (16-20 October).

Volunteer Richard Wells said: “It was great last year to be part of a friendly team of volunteers and Forum staff, and to have the opportunity to hear and see such a varied and interesting programme. It was lovely to see the fun, excitement and enjoyment being had by audiences, both young and old, and that made the experience so rewarding.”

Mark Kirkwood, who volunteered last year, said: “The best part of the festival, for me, was chatting to people about science. From the human microbiome, to GMOs, to antibiotic resistance, to life on other planets, I was consistently surprised by where people’s curiosity would take the conversation. It is heartening that the festival encouraged and fostered such thinking, as curiosity is the very essence of science.”
