3-golds

Nidge Bedingfield from Beccles Taekwondo Club, took part in the GTUK 2013 Open British Taekwondo Championships, which were held at Ryton, near Coventry on Saturday 3rd March 2013.

The veteran section is very competitive, and the category starts from the age of 40, the sparring tournament is open weight, so Nidge at the age of 58 was giving away, height, weight and quite a few years to his competitors.

Nidge has been training hard through the winter months in preparation for this major tournament, which he had planned to be his last, and went out in style, becoming a Triple British Champion by winning all his events with an awesome haul of three golds, Sparring, Patterns (punching, kicking and blocking sequences) and Destruction (board breaking with hand and feet techniques).

“This has been the highlight of my Taekwondo training, I’ve never felt more alive than when I’m competing, but now it’s time to teach, and help others experience the adrenaline rush of competing in Taekwondo no matter what their age. I think I’ve proved you’re never to old to take up a martial art!”

Nidge is a joint instructor at Beccles Taekwondo club with his wife Susie Bedingfield, who are also active members of the Bungay Taekwondo club.
