Norfolk poet brings final trilogy play ‘home’ as part of national tour - Luke Wright’s The Remains of Logan Dankworth at Norwich Arts Centre 23 Feb prior to March London date.

The Remains of Logan Dankworth is the third and final instalment of Luke Wright’s trilogy of political verse plays. As we continue to discover the lingering legacy of Brexit the play, set in 2016 as the referendum campaigns build, centres on themes of privilege and trust between married couples, between voters and politicians and trust and truth in the media. Exactly 70 years ago today, East Anglia was battered one of the most devastating natural disasters in British history. A freak combination of violent winds, atmospheric pressure and high spring tides prompted the North Sea to come raging inland, overwhelming our coastal communities. 🌊

There was no warning system or planning in place and as a consequence 307 people died across England, over 24,000 properties were damaged and more than 32,00 people had to be evacuated. 100 people were killed in Norfolk including 15 in King’s Lynn and around 20% of the town was underwater. Those who lost their lives and the heroes who prevented many more from being taken that night are being remembered across the region 7 decades on. A number of memorial events took place last weekend, and today King’s Lynn Minster will host a dedicated service at 1pm as well as an exhibition on the floods from 10am to 4pm.You can read more about this extraordinary historic event in your January/February edition of KL Magazine or on our website: bit.ly/3WYAR9C ... Tickets are now on sale for the 7th INK Festival in Halesworth, Suffolk.

The INK Festival 2023 will take place 13-16th April (+ April 17th which is an exclusive day for students) in Halesworth, Suffolk. We have expanded into the town to create many original performance spaces where we will be performing more than 50 short new plays, selected this year from hundreds of submissions from new as well as experienced writers. What is unique about INK is that we produce all the plays performed.Chosen from annual submissions and INK workshops, each play is read at least 5 times before a short list is formed, from which directors select the plays they wish to direct. We cast the plays from auditions in Suffolk and London and each year bring together a team of more than 60 professional theatre practitioners of actors, directors, stage crew and technical staff to enable The INK Festival. This year we had several submission categories including: The Environment, Multimedia, Radio Comedy, Musicals, Physical Theatre and more, producing a wide variety of relevant and thought-provoking plays. As well as more than 50 short plays there will be an exciting line-up of comedy, radio, art, poetry, music, children’s programmes, fascinating talks, workshops, short new films and much more.As ever, we are delighted to have a number of plays from some very special supporters including Anthony Horowitz, Kate and Greg Mosse, Louis de Bernieres, Richard Francis, and Lise Mayer. There will be special guest appearances from Alexei Sayle, Kevin Clifton, Jan Etherington, David Morrissey, Jan Ravens, Luke Wright and Radio Active in a thrilling line-up of talks and performances.Sunday Funday, on Sunday 16th April will see additional and exciting street performances and activities for everyone – performed along The Thoroughfare and Market Square in the centre of Halesworth.
