Covid testing in Bungay!Bungay now has a COVID-19 rapid testing centre, one of the latest in the network being opened around Suffolk.
It is based at the community centre in Upper Olland Street and is for people who are not showing any symptoms of coronavirus and who have to leave the home, such as for work.
Since the first Suffolk centre opened in January a total of 95 people have so far given positive results. That is 95 people who were unaware they had coronavirus and who could - potentially - have passed it on unwittingly to others, including loved ones.
As many as one in three people who have the virus do not show symptoms and, as the vaccination programme continues, regular testing will play a key part in stopping its spread.
For more details about asymptomatic testing go to www.suffolk.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/getting-a-test/covid-19-asymptomatic-testing/

The NHS, county councils and carer organisations want to identify carers who may not be registered or known to their GP practice or local council services. They are also calling on any paid carers who have not yet been offered the vaccine to get in touch.🙂 On Wednesday, we launched a new joint campaign with Norfolk County Council, EDP 24 and other partner organisations to help identify unpaid/unidentified carers of elderly and disabled people across Norfolk and Waveney so we can contact them to offer a COVID-19 vaccine.
In line with national guidance, appointments for COVID-19 vaccination are now being offered to eligible, unpaid carers identified within cohort 6 by the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).
If you are the main carer of an older or disabled person who is clinically vulnerable or whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill and not known to the NHS or county councils, we want to hear from you.
The NHS, county councils and carer organisations want to identify carers who may not be registered or known to their GP practice or local council services. We are also calling on any paid carers who have not yet been offered the vaccine to get in touch.
Eligible carers of an elderly or disabled person who...
📌 are aged 16+ (there is currently no vaccine licensed for under-16s)
📌have not already got an appointment booked for COVID-19 vaccination and
📌 have not already had their first vaccine
...can contact us between now and 31 March to register themselves as a carer. The easiest way to do this is online at: apps.norfolk.gov.uk/carervax
A 24/7 telephone voicemail service is available for people to leave their contact details but only if they are unable to register as an eligible carer online 01603 257 256.
Please share - thank you 👍💙

Regeneration LowestoftExciting news for Lowestoft! Following a successful bid to the Government’s Towns Fund, Lowestoft will be offered £24.9m to invest in the regeneration of the town, driving economic growth and acting as a catalyst for future investment.
In 2019, Lowestoft was chosen as one of 100 UK towns to benefit from the Towns Fund. Each town was invited to develop a proposal for a Towns Deal, with up to £25 million available to bid for.
In October 2020, a Town Investment Plan which sets out Lowestoft’s ambitions, opportunities and challenges over the next ten years was submitted to the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government as the basis of a £24.9m application to the Towns Fund. The plan was developed in partnership with Lowestoft Place Board, which comprises representatives from public, private and voluntary organisations and is managed by East Suffolk Council.
As part of today’s Budget announcement, it has been confirmed that the funding bid was successful, with the full £24.9million agreed.
Work will now begin to prepare a business case for each project put forward within the Town Investment Plan to show how they will be implemented within the timeframe of the funding. This process will take 12 months and project delivery is expected to begin from April 2022.
