Many thanks to all those of you who gave up a warm summer evening to see TAXI TEHRAN.  Even more thanks to the half dozen who braved our AGM afterwards.  The meeting reached double figures for the first time.  We’re taking a break next month and will be back on 26 September with THEEB (15).

In the meantime, Fisher Theatre Cinema has a full August programme which includes four films for children, three of them matinees at 1pm on Tuesday afternoons with admission a mere £3.

Fisher Theatre Films

PAPER PLANES (U) on Monday 1 August at 7.30pm is an imaginative children’s film about a young Australian boy’s passion for flight and his challenge to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan.

Animated monster comedy HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2 (U) is on Tuesday 2 August at 1pm.

EVEREST (12A), showing on Monday 8 August at 7.30pm, is a British/American adventure based loosely on events which took place on a climbing expedition in 1996.

Disney animation BIG HERO 6 (PG) on Tuesday 9 August at 1pm is briskly paced, action packed and often touching.

Oscar favourite THE REVENANT (15), at 7.30pm on Monday 15 August, stars Leonardo DiCaprio and tells the story of a frontiersman in the 1820s US who fights for survival after being left for dead by his hunting companions.

THE LEGO MOVIE (U), on Tuesday 16 August at 1pm, boasts beautiful animation, a charming voice cast, good jokes and a surprisingly thoughtful story.

A welcome opportunity to see HECTOR (15) screens at 7.30pm on Monday 22 August. Peter Mullan leads an excellent cast as a homeless man who decides to reconnect with his past in this moving and darkly comic British drama.

Audience favourite FROZEN (PG) screens at 1 pm on Tuesday 23 August, and is an animated Disney musical which tells the story of Anna and her race to save the kingdom of her sister, Queen Elsa.

Jennifer Lawrence gives a star turn in JOY (12A) at 7.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday 29 August.  This fact based comedy drama about an uneducated single mother who sells mops on TV and founds a business dynasty also features Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper.

Tickets to evening shows cost £5, matinees £3.  Apologies, no reduction for film club members.

Tickets available at the Fisher Box Office.
