Organ Recital

Coffee-time Organ Recital at Wymondham Abbey

Gabriel Chiu will give an organ recital on Saturday, August 20, on Wymondham Abbey’s 1793 James Davies organ.

The recital starts at 11am and will last for around an hour. Coffee will be served from 10.30am. No tickets are required; there will be a retiring collection in aid of Abbey funds.

Gabriel’s recital programme will include pieces by Louis Vierne, J S Bach, Alexandre Guilmant and Pietro Yon. His musical education began with the piano at the age of five. He studied the organ at Wymondham College under the tutelage of Andrew Day for three years. During his last year at the college, Gabriel also sang with Wymondham Abbey choir.

After leaving school, Gabriel spent one year in Dorset working as the organ scholar of Sherborne School and Sherborne Abbey. In October 2014, he took up an Organ Scholarship at Peterhouse, University of Cambridge, with an academic place to read for the Law Tripos. He now studies the organ with Anne Page.

Wymondham Abbey operates a video screen so that the audience can watch the amazing progress of the organist’s hands and feet.
