Suffolk Libraries are getting into the Christmas spirit over the next few weeks with a series of festive family events:

  • Halesworth, Aldeburgh, Stowmarket and Hadleigh libraries are hosting ‘cards for good causes’ charity Christmas card sales in the run up to Christmas with the library also receiving a percentage of sales.
  • Stowmarket Library is getting involved with the Christmas Lights Switch On event on 29 November, providing craft activities for children, live music with rock n roll pianist and singer Phil Jackson, wine and a book sale during the event which runs from 5.15 to 7pm.
  • Father Christmas will be making an appearance at the Broomhill Christmas Fayre at Westbourne Library in Ipswich on Saturday 30 November from 12pm to 4pm. The event will be packed with activities for all the family including a school choir, arts, crafts and book stalls, coffee and cakes from Scrumptious Sisters, Mr Bean Balloon Modelling and a raffle.
  • The Friends of Southwold Library are taking part in Christmas Lights Night in Southwold High Street on Friday 6 December from 5.30pm with tombola and a lucky dip for children.
  • Aldeburgh Library are holding a Christmas Fayre on Saturday 7 December from 10am to 12.30pm with cakes, hot drinks, stalls and children’s craft activities.
  • Gainsborough Library will be holding several Christmas themed activities over two days. On Saturday 7 December there will be a Christmas Fayre from 10am to 1pm including a Christmas Grotto with party games and carol singing from 2pm to 4pm.  On Monday 16 December there will be carol singing and Christmas crafts from 4pm to 6pm with help from the Landseer Road Methodist Church Choir.
  • Afternoon Tea at Christmas is a special festive concert taking place on Sunday 8 December in aid of Elmswell Primary School and Elmswell Library. The concert is taking place at 4pm at The Blackbourne Community Centre in Elmswell. Music will be performed by the Bury St Edmunds Concert Band featuring Elmswell Primary School Choir. Tickets are £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. The price includes cake and refreshments being provided by Elmswell WI. Tickets are available from the library or Elmswell Pharmacy.
  • Ipswich County Library are holding a Christmas craft and book sale on Saturday 7 December from 9.30am to 4pm. Ipswich Library is hosting an event where Stephen Boswell (Recently co-starring in ‘Top Hat’ at the Aldwych Theatre) will be performing a series of monologues in ‘Reginald’s Christmas Revell’ on Saturday 14 December in the Lecture Hall from 2.30pm.
  • Newmarket Library will be helping children to make Christmas Cards as part of their Sunday craft activity on Sunday 15 December and making a Christmas paper lanterns on 22 December.
  • Mildenhall Library are holding a party for young library customers on Saturday 21 December. Bookstart Bear will be entertaining children and there will also be balloon modelling, face painting, games and refreshments. The event will run from 12.30pm to 2pm and there will be a raffle prize of a Christmas Tree balloon. The event has been supported by the Friends of Mildenhall Library.
