Southwold-Christmas-Lights-2013

Who is going to switch on the Southwold Christmas lights in 2013 is the big question around town.

The event named ‘Switch on Southwold’ was entailed in a dramatic twist in 2012, due to a row over costing the event.

At one point the event looked destined for the ‘naughty list’, until Adnams Brewery stumped up £10,000 to help save the event.

Southwold town council also pledged £2,000 to the annual festivities.

The switch-on saw more than 1500 people turn out for the traditional Victorian themed event which took place in the market place and included a fake snow machine.

The winter wonderland effect it created was a real hit with the kids, and not forgetting the biggest kids of all, the adults.

So with new organisers and plenty of volunteers at the helm, expect this Christmas switch-on to be a spectacular event.

This year’s event has been scheduled for December 6th, with the official switch-on at 7pm.

And if you are the daring type, then why not get involved in the Rotary Club of Southwold and District’s annual Christmas Day swim.

It has a real community feel with everyone clubbing together to raise money for charity. The swim is certain to be well attended and begins at 10:30am on December 25th.

Or perhaps a little retail therapy is what you are looking for. If it is, then Southwold can boast a range of shops for those festive gifts.

Don’t forget to take a look around Adnams Brewery, they offer a fantastic brewery and distillery tour, and what better time to look around than the season to be jolly.
