Poet Luke Wright returns to Bungay Library

Fresh from his success at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival, local poet Luke Wright is returning to Bungay Library this Friday (4 December).

Luke will be performing at the library from 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 each with profits going to Bungay Community Library. Luke was awarded The Scotsman Fringe First Award as well as one of the Stage Awards for Acting Excellence at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

Beccles Library events

There is a Christmas Quiz at Beccles Library on Wednesday (2 December) from 7pm. Tickets are £2.50. You can bring your own alcohol or soft drinks and mulled wine and nibbles will also be available.

Beccles Library are also holding an open morning this Thursday (3 December) from 10am to 1pm where there will be a chance to find out about the various organisations that help the town thrive. There will be information and opportunities to get involved — come along to find out more.

Next Monday (7 December) Beccles Library is holding a road safety event from 11am to 2pm. Come along and test your driving skills on the Driving Simulator and one of the county council’s road safety officers will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on staying safe on the roads over Christmas.

Anyone is welcome to a special festive event on Thursday 10 December. ‘Christmas again!’ will involve poems, readings and maybe a song or two with Alan Weyman from 2pm to 3pm. There’ll be mince pies and other refreshments. The event is aimed at the library’s Top Time group for older people but everyone is welcome to join in.

On Thursday 17 December from 2pm to 3pm there is a chance to hear Beccles crime writer, Mark Mower, talk about and read extracts from his latest book, ‘A Farewell to Baker Street’. The book contains five previously unknown cases from the astonishing career of Sherlock Holmes and are written in the style of Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle.

BBC Radio Suffolk’s Mark Murphy to talk at Thurston Library AGM

The Friends of Thurston Library are holding their AGM next Wednesday (9 December) at 7pm with special guest Mark Murphy from BBC Radio Suffolk.

The event is open to anyone interested in hearing about the services provided by the library and the work of the Friends group. It will consist of a short informal meeting in the library followed by a talk by Mark Murphy with cheese and wine afterwards. Anyone is welcome to attend and the event is free.

News snippet – Some activities for children at Aldeburgh Library:

Aldeburgh Library is holding a special festive activity this Saturday (5 December) offering children the chance to make Christmas Minions. Children are welcome to come along between 10am and 12noon and there will also be refreshments and a cake stall.

A new Minecraft club is now running at the library every Wednesday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm including school holidays. Bring along a tablet, phone or any device with Minecraft and join us battling monsters in Minecraft!

The library is also now holding free songs and rhymes sessions for babies and toddlers every Monday from 10.30am to 11am.
