Dear Reader,
We are pleased to present to you HighTide Festival 2015, which sees us return to Suffolk in both a new home and at a new time of year. For the first time the Festival will take place in September, and in the idyllic seaside town of Aldeburgh. We’ve an extraordinary line up of plays including four premiere HighTide productions, as well as a series of readings, visiting companies, and an expanded music programme alongside comedy presented by Soho Theatre and so much more, including Face to Face events with Christopher Eccleston, Sir Richard Eyre, Meera Syal in conversation with Libby Purves and Kate Mosse and an evening of readings with the celebrated Vanessa Redgrave.
This year we open with a new play by talented playwright Luke Norris, So Here We Are, which premieres at the Festival before transferring to Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre. This is followed by a compelling new play, BRENDA, by E V Crowe, most recently known for her work with the Royal Court. Next up is the powerful marriage play Harrogate, by award-winning playwright Al Smith and finally Anders Lustgarten’s brilliant Lampedusa, which premiered at Soho Theatre, London and will be returning to Soho due to popular demand from 30 June – 25 July before playing the Festival and the Liverpool Unity Theatre.
There is much more to see than our exceptional plays. We’re pleased to host our aforementioned Face to Face events as well as Comedy Nights presented by Soho Theatre including Shappi Khorsandi, Sam Simmons, Nish Kumar and John Kearns. There is an evening of world-class music presented by Concordia Foundation which will be narrated by Henry Goodman, as well as a night jazz with James Pearson and Polly Gibbons of Ronnie Scott’s and a free Big Beach Sing led by Firefly Burning and The Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir.
A host of visiting companies offer an eclectic mix of productions including site-specific pieces from Baz Productions at the South Lookout and the Britten-Pears Foundation in the grounds of the famous Red House. We also have magic from the acclaimed Morgan and West, cakes from Hunt & Darton, story-telling with Wonderful Beast and an evening of floristry and theatrical gossip with renowned floral designer Mig Kimpton. There are also a host of free workshops and readings of exceptional new plays by Clara Brennan, Jon Canter, Danielle Daley, Tom Holloway and Theresa Ikoko.
Finally, as part of HighTide’s commitment to young people in the East, the Garfield Weston Foundation, the Mackintosh Foundation, and the Britten-Pears Foundation have made charitable donations, which enable HighTide to give away 500 tickets to the region’s young people to attend Festival events. To find out more contact us at HighTide Festival Theatre.
We hope that you can join us either for a day, the weekend or the whole ten days for a Festival like no other.
