West Stow Anglo Saxon Village
Suffolk Skalds storytelling and poetry competition
Sunday 10th July 2016
www.weststow.org
The Suffolk Skalds are incredibly lucky to be able to meet in the Main Hall of West Stow reconstructed Anglo Saxon village, treading in the footprints of people who, almost certainly, listened to the first renditions of the great English epic, Beowulf
Entry is open to anyone so if you’ve never told a story in public why not make this first event?
The themes for this year are: for stories, fools, tricksters and riddles, for poems, mythical birds
Stories must be told and not read. Poems must be of the poets original composition and may be read or recited, it’s up to entrants to decide
If you’d like to take part please just let us know, either via our Facebook group, Suffolk Skalds or email [email protected]
We start after a picnic lunch.
Of-course, people are very welcome to come along just to listen. Usual museum entry applies.
If you’d like to engage with storytellers in Norfolk and Suffolk, Tales From The Undercroft (Norwich), Tales and Ales (Geldeston Locks Inn) and Bards Aloud (Ipswich) all have Facebook pages. Storytelling is great fun, anyone can do it and groups are all very welcoming.
There will also be story telling at the Dragon Festival at West Stow, last weekend in June.
