The Beccles Public Hall team is so pleased to welcome back popular local DJ, Mark RnB Bale, after his successful Motown evening last September when they screened the film Dreamgirls, followed by a night of Northern Soul and Motown numbers.

SOUL TIME! has been set for 4 evenings at the Hall starting with a hot new date with all the great sounds of Motown and Northern Soul from Mark’s amazing and wide collection of vinyl, this Saturday 17th May at 8pm to Midnight (doors open at 7.30pm.)

The Northern Soul scene is making a massive national come-back as many young dancers experience the iconic sound for the first time as well as those who have kept the faith over the years.

“The Public Hall dance floor is a classic oak sprung design which is so fantastic for dancing and particularly good for the soul dancers to glide in true Northern Soul style. So KEEP THE FAITH with Mark and join us for a fantastic evening which promises to be magic!” said Sue Bergin, Events Coordinator.

Tickets are just £6 for an evening of dancing to the evocative and magnetic soul sounds of the 50s and 60s. Buy tickets on line at www.becclespubllichall.com or from the Box Office, open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm or on the door on the night. Bar open all evening!

Review of Woman in Mind, 9th May 2014, Beccles Public Hall

Open Space Theatre Company did great justice to one of Alan Ayckbourn’s finest and darkest comedies at the Public Hall on Friday.

The inspirational David Green, Artistic Director, and his wonderful troupe offered up Woman in Mind for the Beccles audience and it was performed superbly and received warmly.

It is the only ‘subjective’ play written by Ayckbourn; the entire play is seen through the eyes of Susan and reflects her perceptions of the world, and the only Ayckbourn play where the lead character, Susan, does not leave the stage at any point throughout the play. Yves Green played Susan sublimely – we were all drawn into her world of emotional turmoil which was performed successfully in the “semi-round”.  The packed audience, brimming with anticipation were very accepting of the non-traditional layout of the production – it drew you in, in a very intimate and inclusive way and it may have been a first for the Hall!

One of the audience was heard to say that she had seen the production in the West End and preferred Open Space’s performance – thank you to David Green and his enthusiastic and very talented troupe. We look forward to welcoming the company back on 26th November for their performance of Terrence Rattigan’s Separate Tables!

Separate Tables opened at London’s St James’s Theatre in 1954 to huge critical and commercial success; it was shown 726 times in the West End and over 300 on Broadway. it was made into an Oscar-winning film in 1956.
