Next month sees the opening of the Seagull Rep’s new touring show, Blackadder Goes Forth, written by Richard Curtis and Ben Elton and we welcome the return of our hero, Blackadder, to the Beccles Public Hall on Wednesday 7th May at 7.30pm

“It’s an exciting time for us” said Seagull Rep Artistic Director, Paul Amer. “Having enjoyed extraordinary critical acclaim for our tours of The Vicar of Dibley and Blackadder II, we couldn’t wait to turn our attention to Blackadder Goes Forth”.

The company decided it was an appropriate time to move on to the first three episodes of Season 4. “It’s not only hilarious, it’s written in such a way that leaves you really identifying with the characters”, said Jonny Goddard, who continues his tenure of the role of Edmund Blackadder, himself.  “I enjoyed the other series but the shift in focus with Goes Forth is such that the futility and horror of Blackadder’s situation is actually a delicate subject.

People love that Blackadder is always in control of this own fate, even when other people think that that they are”! he continued. “He is given quite an advantage over those closest to him in that he actually has some intelligence”! adds Michael Moretta, who plays the faithful man-servant, Baldrick.

Each episode is a fun-packed adventure that combines to make a cracking night out. Captain Cook introduces the characters beautifully with a foray into No Man’s Land for a spot of painting, Major Star sees Blackadder almost blag his way out of the trenches and back home to Blightly as a Theatre Director and Corporal Punishment provides some wonderful cameo characters as our hero comes face to face with a firing squad following a callous disregard for Speckled Jim!

“The Seagull Rep has delighted Beccles Public Hall audiences with pitch-perfect recreations of some of our favourite TV characters and we don’t think you will be disappointed with this production as we welcome back our loveable hero” said Sue Bergin, BPH Events Coordinator.

Tickets can be bought on-line at www.becclespublichall.com or from the Box Office, open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm. Tickets are on sale at £10 and concessions, £9.
