Afternoon with Christopher Orchard

at Beccles Public Hall at 2pm (doors open 1.30pm).

Chris loves our equine friends to the extent that his fascinating and varied careers have always been closely connected with horses. Starting with his service in the Household Cavalry which lasted an amazing 24 years and through to his 16-year key position as Head Horseman at Adnams Brewery of Southwold. Chris now works as a tour guide with Adnams.

It must have been a very sad day when the two Percherons retired from active work at Adnams in September 2006 – these fine heavy horses had been a familiar sight in Southwold for 36 years, but with the opening of Adnams new distribution centre, deliveries by dray were no longer feasible. The journey would have been too far for the horses to pull the weight of the barrels and the road is so busy.

Fancy listening to Chris as he covers his life with horses in 3 sections? The event will finish at approximately 5.00pm and there will be an opportunity at the end for any questions you might have and I’m sure there will be many!

“We are indebted to Chris for his support as he’ll be offering his time as a fundraising afternoon for the Hall” said John Cushing, Director.

There will also be delicious home-made cakes and hot beverages for sale in the interval and, of course, the bar will be open as well.
