News of the fate of Captain Scott and the four companions who made up the polar party of the British Antarctic Expedition – Dr Edward Wilson, Edgar Evans, Captain Oates and Henry Bowers – arrived from New Zealand by telegram on 11 February 1913. The memorial service was held just three days later. This film shows the arrival of the coaches bringing the Lord Mayor, Sir David Burnett and other officials who climb the steps of St Paul’s, where huge crowds had gathered in the square before the Cathedral.
