The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (SCVA) has been awarded a prestigious Full Accreditation as part of Arts Council England’s Accredited Museum scheme. The Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums outlining how they are managed, the services they offer and how they care for collections.

The award comes during an exciting period of change for the Sainsbury Centre, as a major project to configure the building is currently underway. The development has seen the renovation of the space at the east end of the Centre, relocating the shop and providing more space to display the permanent collections.

Welcoming the award Director of the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts Paul Greenhalgh said: “To be fully accredited by the Arts Council of England is enormously important to us, as it speaks to every aspect of what we do, our collections, building, exhibition, education programmes and research.”

Commenting on the accreditation Chief Operating Officer Tony Johnson who has been leading the development, commented: “I’m proud that the Arts Council have recognised the fantastic collection and facilities we have here at the Sainsbury Centre. By minimising disruption from our refurbishment works we have continued to host an exciting programme of events without adversely affecting our visitors.”

“As part of the University of East Anglia’s 50^th anniversary I am proud that the Sainsbury Centre will be launching our new temporary exhibition galleries with Masterpieces: Art and East Anglia a major exhibition displaying the best of Norfolk and Suffolk throughout history.”

The development works will also lead to the creation of a large suite of temporary exhibition galleries downstairs. The new gallery spaces will be launched on 14 September 2013, with a major exhibition displaying the best art of Norfolk and Suffolk throughout history. Masterpieces: Art and East Anglia, will celebrate the rich and unique artistic heritage of the region, with works from across the visual arts from the prehistoric period to the present day.
