Southwold Concert Series 5

Quartet for the End of Time

On Saturday May 10th at 7:30pm, the Southwold Concert Series stages a very special concert to mark the 100th Anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Four outstanding musicians, including two members of the Sacconi Quartet, Ben Hancox and Cara Berridge, as well as clarinetist Sarah Beaty and pianist Alasdair Beatson, will perform works by Bach, Schubert, Berg, and Messiaen.

The programme will include Messiaen’s iconic work, Quartet for the End of Time, written while the composer was held in a German prisoner of war camp in the Second World War, and one of the 20th century’s most extraordinary chamber compositions, reflecting the search for peace and reconciliation out of a time of conflict.

The Southwold Concert Series has developed a reputation for bringing the very highest quality music making to the Suffolk coastal town and the surrounding area, and is now in its 6th season of staging events.

The young performers giving this concert are widely considered to be among the finest chamber musicians in the country, with an host of awards and accolades between them. It should be a powerful and very moving concert.

The concert will be held in Southwold’s St Edmund’s Church, on Saturday 10th May, 7:30pm. Tickets cost £12 and are available in advance from Spring, 4 Church Street, Southwold; tel: 01502 726 161 or email: [email protected]
