Cecil Hepworth’s Rescued by Rover (1905) was the international blockbuster of its day, a gripping tale of a kidnapped baby saved by an intrepid canine hero – played by the Hepworth family dog Blair. The film was so successful it had to be remade twice after the first two negatives wore out. This sequel sees Blair and Hepworth’s daughter Barbara return for another adventure. The sight of a dog fairly convincingly driving a car loses none of its entertainment value over a century later.
