£15k boost for charity campaign

A campaign to raise £714,000 to create a resource centre for people with life-limiting illnesses has moved one step closer to hitting its target thanks to a £15,000 pledge.

Halesworth Community Nursing Care Fund (HCNCF) has been promised the grant from The Band Trust, which was set up in 1976 to help people in need of education or care. The money will be ploughed into an ongoing campaign to raise £714,000 to build a new Information and Support Centre (ISC) for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses in north east Suffolk and south Norfolk.

The ISC aims to bring a full range of holistic services closer to home for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers. This includes benefits advice, wig-fitting, children and family support, complementary therapies, help understanding a diagnosis, counselling and bereavement support.

The latest pledge takes the total raised so far to just over £412,000.

Ted Edwards, ISC chairman, said: “We are really grateful to the Band Trust for this generous pledge, which has taken us one step closer to realising our dream of creating this important resource for vulnerable members of our community.

“We have been overwhelmed by the amazing support we’ve received so far. It really does highlight how passionate local people are about the ISC and bringing these important services closer to home.

“We hope that we can keep up this fantastic momentum during 2015 so that work can begin on creating this fantastic resource for our community.”
