Community Choirs

Wymondham Music Festival is launching its 20th Festival Fortnight on Saturday, June 20 with a  free Community Choirs’ Concert at Robert Kett School from 3pm to 5pm and wants to recruit new choirs especially for the event.

The aim is to have a mix of new choirs formed for the event from local businesses and organisations along with well-established choirs.

Richard Elliott, Chairman, Wymondham Music Festival explained: “We want to encourage people who have never sung in a choir to experience choral singing.  The only quality required is a willingness to have a go!  Of course the main benefit to those taking part is the fun and friendship that comes from singing in a group. We hope that the participants will want to continue singing with one of our established local choirs.”

The minimum number for each community choir will be 12, with, if possible, a mix of men and women to enable a good voice range and provide the opportunity to sing in simple harmony.  The choirs will be prepared by experienced local choral directors, over a four to six week period, with around six hours of rehearsal.  The choirs will perform one song selected by the musical directors at the concert on 20 June.

The closing date to get involved is Friday, May 8 2015; contact Richard Elliott, e. [email protected], m. 07733 002897, www.wymfest.org.uk.
