The garden gates finally closed after a busy 2019 season on 20th October, and now that all the proceeds have been counted, we are very pleased to announce that £112,879 has been raised for charities supported by the National Garden Scheme.
This is a great achievement as there were slightly fewer gardens open for the scheme during the season. A highlight for the year is the £7,340 raised from gardens opening their gates by arrangement for groups that wish to pre-book a visit on a date that suits them best.
Overall our open day garden visitor numbers continue to blossom, reaching an average of 259 per garden, while income from refreshments and plant sales as always made a generous contribution.
County Organiser for Norfolk, Julia Stafford Allen commented “Our fundraising scheme very much relies on our generous garden owners and their volunteers, who work hard to get their garden in peak condition, talk to visitors, bake cakes and serve tea. Without them, the National Garden Scheme could not raise the thousands of pounds for charities year on year.”
Notes:
Since its foundation in 1927, The National Garden Scheme has donated over £55 million to its beneficiaries, with current annual donations reaching £3m.
