EARSHAM-HALL

A GREENER FUTURE FOR

EARSHAM HALL

Imagine a Biomass Plant, consisting of a 40ft long, 12 tonne metal container full of the latest biomass heating system, being lifted by 160 tonne mobile crane over the buildings of Earsham Hall, which dates in part back to the 15th Century!

This is exactly what will be happening on MONDAY 29 APRIL 2013, a nail-biting moment relying on the strength of metal cable and no wind!  A meeting of the past and the future, with a new green Biomass heating system being introduced to Earsham Hall, which nestles on the Norfolk/Suffolk border and has been a well-known location for extensive Furniture Showrooms, Tearoom and a Venue for Weddings, Historical Tours and events for many years.

The Biomass system uses carbon neutral wood pellet fuel, a long term cost effective method compared with that offered by the current oil fired system used at the Hall.  During the cold periods of the year, particularly seen in these early months of 2013 the showrooms, offices and workshops at Earsham Hall can be large freezing spaces, impossible to heat with oil due to the cost implications and the knowledge of the negative effect of burning this type of fuel on greenhouse emissions.

The introduction of a Biomass Heating system by Rupert Derham, owner of Earsham Hall initiates an exciting new phase to the on-going development of the Hall.  “I have been looking to move away from using oil as the fuel at the Hall for a while now, and although I had heard of Biomass Heating systems for a while, it was only last year that I met with a friend who was actually initiating the process at his farm.  The latest technology he was talking about, coupled with the excellent incentives offered by the government over the next twenty years, made it something I thought would work”.

After a few months of research and liaison with the Great Yarmouth based company Anglian Green Deal Ltd who would be installing the system, Rupert finalised the details and agreed to go ahead!

“With the influx of new businesses renting office space at the Hall over the last two years, we needed to find a way to make heating costs sustainable not only for the original business but to the new ones who re-locate to Earsham Hall – this is it!”  he says.

All of the businesses now based at Earsham Hall are delighted with the new scheme and the long term reduction in their heating costs.  Jill Hall, owner of Earsham Hall Tearoom said “We have been using the oil heating system, plus electric heaters since we took the business over in 2005, and it is still difficult to heat the areas properly due to the costs – this new system will give us much more flexibility, whilst knowing that it is far more environmentally friendly – we can’t wait!!”

We invite you to come along to experience this important example of the future being incorporated into such a historic building.  Complimentary Tea, Coffee and homemade biscuits will be served in the Tearoom throughout the morning, although you may still see the evidence of electric heaters in there as it will be a couple more weeks until the system starts working!!

The actual placement of the container is planned to be at approximately 9.30am on MONDAY 29 APRIL 2013 – please join us to watch this exciting event
