Art collective opens applications for artists to take part in virtual exhibition

A Norfolk art collective has launched a scheme for artists to take part in a virtual exhibition in order to support new and existing members.

Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle, which is marking its 135th year, was established in 1885 following Crome & Cotman’s famous Norwich Society of Artists and has included in its membership artists of national and international acclaim such as Alfred Munnings, Edward Seago and Bernard Reynolds.

And now, with more than 200 members it has opened up entries for artists to show new work made during lockdown.

Submissions can be made on the organisation’s new website ahead of the online exhibition which will take place between 1-30 September 2020.

Chairman of the group Hazel Pidsley said: “I am delighted to announce the launch of Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle’s Virtual Exhibition which will run on our website from 1st to 30th September 2020.

“All artwork will be for sale, but to support our members NNAC will not be taking any commission for artwork that is sold, this is because we want to support our members – both professional and amateur – through this very difficult time.

“We would be very pleased to welcome new members who wish to join us as this is the first of a number of initiatives we are launching in the next few weeks – please visit our website for how to join and take part.

“NNAC has a rich and vibrant membership working in a variety of styles and using a range of materials for their work.

“I look forward to welcoming everyone.”

Participants can enter up to three pieces of work, either 2D or 3D and all work submitted must be original work not previously exhibited with Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle.

The deadline for applications is 1 July. To apply to submit entries please contact Geoff Kitchen, Secretary, via [email protected].

The group is also featuring four of their artists every month on their website – with each artist showcasing a recent artwork and thoughts on what inspired them.

Later in the year the collective will also be travelling to the Munnings Museum in Dedham, Essex in a ground-breaking collaboration between the two organisations to mark the strong links of Sir Alfred Munnings and the Norwich and Norfolk Art Circle.

Subscription to join the group is £20 for an individual or £30 for two people living at the same address.
