What a great success the last concert was on 19th June in St Michael’s – and no-one seemed to mind that their carefully prepared picnics had to be eaten inside the church as the weather was so disappointing.

But to quote from our press report would be the best – It would have been tempting to present a Last Night of the Proms style programme but BCS is more imaginative. Their inspiration was to combine choir, Brass Quintet and Piano and it worked wonderfully. In true democratic fashion the BCS provides a third concert in the year for those members who want it…with this chamber choir size they chose repertoire to suit.

So the performance was a joint effort, with Terry Cunnane, the pianist, “deftly” accompanying the choir who sang “beautifully and clearly” in Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands when no brass was included and “the balance between choir and instruments was good when required” with the choir “more than holding their own” in the more rousing sections of the programme. In Stanford’s Songs of the Sea the choir was joined by our soloist, Richard Lee, “a gifted singer with full rich tone and good control of dynamics” and the interpretation was “sensitive”. We certainly gave it our all singing Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, closing our evening of music in great style with all performers taking part. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening!

Now to September and a new season – we look forward to being joined by the absent members who, all with very good reason, choose not to sing in the summertime.

New members are always welcome and we re-start on 7th September at 7.30pm in the Beccles Public Hall to begin rehearsals for the next concert on 12th December, a traditional Christmas programme in words and music.

Come and investigate what we do!
