Beccles Choral Society

Towards the end of the programme on 13th December last, our Christmas headgear came out of hiding! We presented our programme in the Public Hall, guaranteeing that we would all be warm as well as entertained.

As our press report said Deck The Hall!

The Christmas Celebration offered by Beccles Choral Society had something for everyone! The programme of music included Wassail and a delightful arrangement of the carol “What shall I give” arranged by the conductor Philip Simms. The Sir John Leman High School Gospel Choir performed songs and carols in their own enthusiastic style with swing and hand-clap helping their interpretation.

Comical readings and audience participation singing carols and acting “The Twelve Days of Christmas” enlivened the event which had music ranging from difficult carols by Benjamin Britten and ‘O Magnum Mysterium’ to beautiful popular melodies such as the Nativity Carol by John Rutter (all ably accompanied by Terry Cunnane).

Everyone joined in singing ‘White Christmas’ and the rousing Hallelujah Chorus finale.

The homemade mince-pies and ‘warm’ venue in Beccles Public Hall made this a successful start for Christmas season – a recipe that I am sure will be repeated.

The date is already booked for another concert in a similar vein –
12th December 2010
