Beccles Choral Society Update, late April 2008

We are sad to relate that our conductor, Vetta Wise, is leaving us in September because of increased work commitments. Over the last 5 years she has continued to persuade and cajole us with humour and patience to improve singing quality, year on year.

We are indeed fortunate to have Philip Simms, a Suffolk conductor of quality, willing to take us on until the New Year, so he will guide us through the Christmas concert. We shall be advertising the vacancy shortly.

In the meantime, rehearsals will start on 29th April, 7.30 in the Public Hall as usual, for our Farewell to Vetta concert, a performance of The Messiah, with soloists and orchestra. More details will be posted here later, as well as on our own web site,

After our great opportunity to sing Carmina Burana at the final night of Kentwell Hall’s August Arts Festival, last year, we must have made a good impression as we have been invited back this year. On 9th August, with Pakefield Singers again, we shall join the large orchestra to sing the chorus of the final movement of Beethoven’s 9th symphony (Ode to Joy) as well as offer our own choice of a small number of Messiah choruses and raise our voices in the traditional Last Night of the Proms selection. Further details will appear on the Kentwell Hall web site: www.kentwell.co.uk
