Black History Month Family Festival
at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts
The beginning of this year’s Black History Month in Norwich will be celebrated at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia with a free Family Festival on Sunday 30 September. All are welcome to take part in creative activities, music and dance from 2pm to 8pm. The Festival marks the beginning of a month of events across Norfolk, celebrating the contribution of black people.
From 2pm until 5pm visitors can enjoy an afternoon packed with demonstrations and creative activities for all the family. There will be a chance to make a bracelet inspired by the patterns and shapes in the gallery, watch sugar craft demonstrations from Tendai Parr or discover something new in the world art collections with a special trail.
In the evening the Sainsbury Centre will come alive with Afro-Cuban rhythms. There will be a chance to take part in salsa dancing with Jose Ferrera or share delicious African food from Totem. Visitors can join in contemporary African dance workshops with Glynnis Masuku or make some noise and learn West African djembe drumming with Samantha Everitt.
