navigator2

Travel back to the twenties for an evening with one of the greatest masters of the silent era.  Buster and his fiancée are stranded aboard a deserted cruise liner.  The pampered couple are helpless at first, but soon learn to fend for themselves in this comic tour-de-force.

Stephen Horne is one of this country’s leading silent film accompanists, and is in demand all over the world.  Although principally a pianist, he often incorporates flute, accordion and keyboards into his entertaining performances.

Tickets £7.50 and £5.00 (members only, no other concessions).

Monday 28 July at 7.30 pm.

THE GREAT BEAUTY (LA GRANDE BELLEZZA) (15).

Dir. Paolo Sorrentino.  Italy 2013.  142minutes.  In Italian with English subtitles.

Winner of both BAFTA and Golden Globe awards for Best Foreign Film.  Jep Gambardella (Tony Servillo), novelist turned society columnist, feels world-weary the morning after his 65th birthday party.  Taking stock of his life, he looks beyond the extravagant nightclubs, parties, and cafés.  Behind the vulgarity and the venality, he finds the timeless and exquisite landscape of Rome.   Both a satirical portrayal of life in Berlusconi’s Italy and a stunningly shot love letter to the eternal city.
