Suffolk Libraries is hosting a three-day Creative Tech workshop that will allow six young artists aged 17-25 to explore digital technologies and create new works celebrating the unseen part of Ipswich.
This will take place at Ipswich County Library from 28th to 30th August, with deadlines for applications to the programme closing on Wednesday 14th August.
This opportunity is referred to as a ‘BLOC LAB’ and is part of Suffolk Libraries’ ‘BLOC – Building Libraries on Creativity’ programme funded by Arts Council England. For those further afield, another BLOC Lab will be taking place in Lowestoft in October.
Technologies that artists will able to try out during this residency include:
· Virtual reality
· 360’ photography
· Sound recording
· Physical Computing
· Micro-bits and much more…
This will allow the six young artists the opportunity to try out and learn how to use new creative technologies, expand their portfolio and work directly with professional artists.
Sally Garwood, Creative Programmes Assistant says:
“For young creatives, finding the path to success as a professional artist can be challenging. Creative Tech is a fantastic opportunity for six young artists in Suffolk to build new skills, gain insight into the world of work, share ideas and creativity, but most importantly build a network of mutual support and enjoy the company of like-minded people.”
Testimonials from last years’ success of the BLOC Lab suggest that these residencies are something much-needed in the community and helpful to artists who are trying to make a start.
“It was an incredibly useful period for reflection, idea ‘seeding’ and professional/personal development… I was surprised at how lovely the dinner was as a social event. It was a really fantastic experience to enjoy the company of like-minded people in a work context, just as people.”
“The overall atmosphere of the week was just incredible. Everyone was very welcoming and just lovely! This created an environment where I felt very comfortable in expressing myself and communicating with everyone.”
How do I apply?
· You need to be aged 17 – 25 years old
