DAVID GOWER & FRIENDS – AT BLACKFRIARS HALL, NORWICH

Former England cricket captain David Gower reflects on a lifetime’s passion for sport and wildlife on Wednesday 3 September 2014, 7pm at Blackfriars Hall, Norwich.

He will be joined on stage by sports writer and nature journalist Simon Barnes and the inimitable Bill Oddie.

David was one of the most capped and highest scoring cricket players for England during the 1980s. Humorous and charismatic, he is a master raconteur and since ending his playing days has become a media star through his work for the BBC and Sky Sports.

David Gower & Friends is being organised by Suffolk based international conservation charity, World Land Trust.

Until he was six, David Gower’s family lived in Tanganyika (now Tanzania) and his childhood experiences shaped his lifelong interest in conservation: “Growing up in Africa gave me an early appreciation and love for the natural world, a passion that I’ve been able to indulge ever since in my travels both as an international cricketer and now as a broadcaster. And what I’ve seen is this: the natural world is increasingly being squeezed into corners and at worst is disappearing altogether.”

David has been a patron of the charity since 1996. He said: “I’m very proud to be a patron of World Land Trust. Its method is very, very simple: you buy land, you protect species. Protecting that land gives the wildlife that lives on it a chance to survive and thrive.”

David Gower & Friends will be followed by a champagne reception. During the reception guests will be able to meet and mingle with David, Simon and Bill. Champagne for the reception has been generously donated by Naked Wines, a WLT corporate supporter based in Norwich.
