Debenham Arts Festival 2010 Programme

The Debenham Arts Festival 2010 builds on the first Arts Festival last year and includes a wide variety of arts events celebrating local talent as well as bringing artists in from afar. We hope you enjoy the programme and many thanks to all those who have contributed to putting it together.

Friday June 18th
Sarah Bower
Historical novelist Sarah Bower reveals Tricks of the historical fiction trade in a workshop for all abilities. Only 15 places.

David Bedford
David will be getting everyone to do the greatest dance ever invented by a zebra: as well as reading one of his stories for children.

Jonny Marvel, Magic Phil and Ms Mal Content providing the words and Petra Garrard, Will Dixon and Kimberley Moore the music. Expect to be VERY entertained!

Saturday 19th June

Benedict Gummer
Benedict Gummer will discuss The Scourging Angel, his excellent history of England around the time of the Black Death. Fact, not fiction. A must for anyone interested in the medieval period.

Roma Tearne
Roma Tearne will read from her new novel, The Swimmer, set on the Suffolk coast where she used to live. Will it repeat the success of her popular Brixton Beach?

James Coghill & New Poets
Commended Foyle Young Poet in 2006 and 2007, James Coghill and new local poets will read their work. To include the winners of the Crows Hall Poetry competition.

Anthony & Ann Thwaite
A rare chance to hear Anthony Thwaite, poet, and Ann Thwaite, biographer, talk about their literary lives. He has a new volume of poems, she has written her family history.

Radio Plays
A selection of original radio plays written by local playwrights in association with Eyeswrite including comedy, tragedy, mystery and bewilderment. Let your imagination create the pictures while we provide the audio soundtrack to these short stories.

Street Fayre
This event will be held in Debenham High Street / Aspall Road between the Primary School and GraceChurch Street. Refreshments, Morris Men, Music, Samba Band, Stalls and entertainment for the children with free face paints and balloon animals

Mid Summer Medley
Music and poetry to celebrate mid summers evening. Organised by local youth group Friends in Deed to raise money for HOPs and St Helens House Charities. Tickets in advance from Spiral Gallery, 46 High Street

Macbeth
Performed by the Pantaloons. Fun filled twist on Shakespeare’s classic tale of madness and murder with live music, audience interaction, puppetry and plenty of fast paced fun for the whole family. This is an outside event and picnics are encouraged!
