Discover Nature At Minsmere For Springwatch 2010

With the BBC’s Springwatch series set to return to our screens in early June, visitors to RSPB Minsmere nature reserve, near Westleton, can join in the fun on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th June with a special Springwatch with the RSPB weekend.

As Kate and Chris enthral us with stunning images of wildlife from around the UK, the RSPB promises visitors the chance to discover nature for real on the Suffolk coast: wild, exciting and accessible.

RSPB spokesman, Ian Barthorpe, said, “Spring is a wonderful time to discover nature with a visit to Minsmere. During the weekend we’ll show you who is hiding in the reeds, which animals nest in sandy burrows and what makes Minsmere special. You can meet our four-legged wardens, or search for dragons and damsels.

“Minsmere is a great place to bring the family. You can look for armoured woodlice or multi-legged centipedes on a minibeast hunt, discover who lives below the water by doing some pond dipping, or have fun playing parachute games.”

The Springwatch weekend also includes a bird ringing demonstration, run by the Waveney Bird Club and the British Trust for Ornithology, and a binocular and telescope demonstration by Viking Optical of Halesworth.

Springwatch at Minsmere runs from 10 am to 4 pm each day. Timings of individual activities will vary. All activities are free and usual reserve entry fees apply. No booking is required.
