There’s a contrasting programme of entertainment at the Public Hall this weekend, starting this Friday 9th May 2014 with one of Alan Ayckbourn’s finest and darkest comedies as Open Space Theatre Company present Woman in Mind at 7.30pm.

Vicar’s wife, Susan, is so bored with the banality of her life that she starts to imagine a fantasy family – illusion and reality collide with hilarious and devastating results. If you enjoyed An Inspector Calls last year, don’t miss this superb performance as the Hall welcomes back the very fine Open Space Theatre Company who are based in East Anglia – they offer fresh ideas in presenting a wide range of performance from classical and well-known contemporary drama to issue-based plays by new writers. Tickets for sale at £9.50 and £8.50 for concessions.

On Saturday, join in for another entertaining evening with the highly acclaimed local band, Skiphire, for one of another popular Ceilidh fundraising events.  All proceeds will go towards Beccles Lido. The ceilidh is being held at Beccles Public Hall on Saturday 10th May & doors open 7.30pm. Dancing starts at 8pm through to 11.30pm.

Susan Shannon, Lido fundraising organiser, said ” the ceilidh events are a good fun night out and we will be using smaller tables so there’s even more space for the dancing. If you haven’t been before, do get your tickets quickly as we anticipate another sell-out”! A hot meal to include a vegetarian option is included in the ticket price of £12.50 each. There will be a raffle which is supported by many local businesses including The Swan House- Overnight stay and Breakfast, Tally-Ho Tea Rooms-afternoon tea for two, Beccles Fish Bar -fish and chip supper and many more.

Sunday afternoon promises to be highly entertaining as the Hall welcomes new Patron, Helen McDermott for Cowards in the Wings at 2.30pmAs seen at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, this delightful tribute to the lesser known songs of Noel Coward is now in its second successful tour. Even Mad Dogs and Englishmen would not want to miss this!

The musical show was written by Adrian Wright and includes piano music by Annette Jude and narration from John Knowles, all from Norfolk.Tickets are on sale at £12 and £10 for concessions and there will be home made cakes and hot beverages for sale as well as drinks from the Hall bar.
