Those who enjoy the lovely local landscape, the beauty of fine horses and having a go at sketching will be interested in a unique walking and art event on 22 August 2013.

Inspired by Sir Alfred Munnings’ paintings of horses and led by Tara Danischevsky, an artist specialising in bold and dynamic drawings of horses in a contemporary style, it will involve a four mile walk from Harleston to St Cross via the Sir Alfred Munnings Hotel in Mendham, where there are many fine prints of Munnings’ most famous paintings. At St Cross Tara will demonstrate how she approaches drawing these fine creatures and will help participants to have a go themselves.

“I love capturing the drama, strength and grace of horses in action,” commented Tara, who became interested in drawing animals while in the final year of her degree at Glasgow School of Art.  Since graduating she has built a dedicated following and now works primarily on commissions. Tara is the artist behind several album covers for Norfolk’s alternative folk outfit Horses Brawl, and has exhibited in group shows around the UK including in London and Glasgow.

The event is suitable for people of all levels of drawing experience, from professional artists to beginners. They will need to bring sketch books, pencil or charcoal, although additional materials will be available.

The event is one of 10 walks organised by Waveney & Blyth Arts during August and September which all have an arts theme. They include Cotman in Great Yarmouth (7 September), In the Footsteps of Seago led by Peter Knights around Geldeston (12 September) and a guided walk around Bungay called Picturing the Past and led by Chris Reeve (22 September). See www.waveneyandblytharts.com for the full programme.

The walk and drawing workshop on Thursday 22 August will run from 10am to 4pm and costs £25 per person, which includes temporary membership of Waveney & Blyth Arts, the workshop tuition, coffee/scone at Sir Alfred Munnings Hotel and a minibus back to Harleston.
