In a change from previous years, the family days will be held each Thursday from 29 July to 26 August, giving more families the opportunity to Look to the Future – the theme for this year’s event.
RSPB spokesman Ian Barthorpe said, “There’s the usual exciting range of activities, including pond dipping, a bird ringing demonstration, games and crafts on a wildlife theme. Families can learn about moths, dissect an owl pellet or discover how difficult it is for a tern to find enough sandeels to feed to its chicks. There’s loads of wildlife to spot from Minsmere countryside walks and birdwatching hides too.
“The theme for this year’s event ties in with the six main aims of the RSPB’s Letter to the Future. More than 200 000 people have already signed this letter, asking the new government to ensure that wildlife still has a voice amid forthcoming budget cuts.”
Activities run from 11 am to 4 pm each day, and families should allow two hours to complete all activities. The event is free, although normal reserve entry fees apply.
