lake-house-brundall The gardens opening in May for the Norfolk National Gardens Scheme(NGS) feature a profusion of vivid colours  ranging from carpets of bluebells to bright yellow and orange azaleas and  bold blooms of massed rhododendrons.

Here are just a few of the gardens on view; During the early May bank holiday weekend on Sunday May 4th and Monday 5th 2014, Lake House at Brundall has a series of spectacular ponds descending through a colourful woodland  to the shore of a lake. This garden is opening jointly with Plovers Hill at nearby Strumpshaw and is good value at £6 per person with free entry for children.

Witton Hall near North Walsham also opens on bank holiday Monday 5th May and is the place for bluebells and natural woodland walks. Holme Hale Hall makes a welcome return to the NGS on May 11th and is well known for its walled gardens and displays of Alliums and Wisteria. On May 18th How Hill Farm at Ludham is opening for a 32nd year which is a wonderful achievement by its owner Peter Boardman. This garden is a must visit with fabulous broadland views, masses of colourful azaleas and rhododendrons and many unique architectural fragments on display. One of these resides in a conservatory adjacent to the house and you will be amazed!!

A new garden at The Merchants House in Blakeney opens on Saturday  May 31st with an expansive two acres featuring a secret walled garden and much more to see. So an ideal reason to visit the beautiful North Norfolk coast. More details and information on these and the other four gardens is in the Norfolk NGS yellow booklet which is readily available in libraries, tourist information centres, nurseries and garden centres.
