Gone but not forgotten –
Beccles Choral Society’s picnic concert
Conductor: Philip Simms

Held early in July this was a memorable evening for the music, the setting, the picnic and the weather, none of which could have been better.

The audience enjoyed everything and was generous in praise and appreciation. The only disappointment was the lack of support from the people of Beccles and surrounding district. Unless the society sells more tickets, happy and enjoyable evenings such as this proved to be will be rare because of the costs involved, especially in the hiring of an orchestra.

We need support from individuals who buy our tickets and sometimes become a Friend, as well as sponsorship or advertising from local businesses.

Contact the secretary if you have any helpful suggestions please or if you are interested in joining – new members are always welcome.

A great evening was had by all!

To quote from our press report:-

The chorus provided a rich, balanced and lively sound that very much captured the changing moods of the work. They sang with confidence and projected a real sense of joy and excitement through the music.

The orchestra played with energy and colour and there were 3 fine young soloists from the Guildhall School of Music, all with obvious talent and bright futures ahead.

This was a superb evening of music under the direction of Philip Simms. Philip brought the highest level of professionalism to the performance and at the same time really captured the wit and humour and character of the piece. It was clear that under his direction all the performers were enjoying the music and communicated their enjoyment to the audience.

This wonderful evening of music was greatly enjoyed by all who attended but if groups like the Beccles Choral Society are to continue to offer such high quality performances they need the support of the town and community. Make sure you come along to their next concert and support this high quality music making in the centre of our town. – J Beauchamp.

We shall start rehearsing again on 1st September in the Public Hall as usual. The Christmas concert at 4pm on Sunday 13th December will be aimed at families and presented in the Public Hall. There will be more precise details later in the autumn.
