Halesworth & District Riding Club

The Halesworth and District Riding Club (HDRC) show organisers risked the icy winter weather to hold their first Dressage Show of the season on Saturday 23 January. The show is the first in an exciting and varied schedule of shows, events and training clinics planned for 2010.

Prelim 1 was won by versatile Junior rider Liam Brinkley on his super coloured mare Weatherbrook Prima Donna and they also took the prize for Best Junior. In second place was another junior rider Rosalind Brody on her delightful pony Byefields Little Nell. Third was Natalia Pretty on the elegant Demi.

Prelim 10 was won by Pauline Wilton, who last competed two years ago. She performed a lovely test on the 22-year-old Lucy Lastic and also took home the prize for Best Veteran Horse. Liam took second place and once again won the prize for Best Junior. Zoe Muggleton was placed third on her striking Welsh Cob Splash who was clearly showing the benefits of being schooled through the winter.

Stephanie Askew teamed up with Pauline Wilton to produce a great pairs to music routine, gathering quite a crowd of admiring spectators and hopefully inspiring others to have a go next time. Stephanie went on to win the Novice 20 with a soft, well-ridden test. Yvonne Proctor was second with a calm and controlled Nakatani.

The Show was organised by HDRC members Rose Hart and Hayley Chilver and held in the luxury of the Centaur Trust’s superb indoor arena at Earlsway Farm in Bramfield. Earlsway’s owners Richard and Debbie Symes kindly helped to set up on the day and provided a welcoming woodburning stove to keep spectators warm in the viewing gallery. From April shows will be held at Phoenix Equestrian Centre in Spexhall on a 60m x 60m all-weather manège,

HDRC is a friendly and welcoming Club that caters for all abilities from serious team players to those seeking some nurturing and fun. Membership costs just £18 for the year.
